Drum Sander

I’ve been thinking about building a drum sander. The two types on the Internet are the drum mounted in the table top and the drum above the table top (like a thickness planer). I think I prefer the later. I have about 200 board feet of ash that has been hanging around for a long time which I think will make excellent material for the drum sander frame. How I got the ash is another story.  It appears you can buy the drum and parts for around $200 and if you have extra hardwood laying around, you shouldn’t have a big investment in the unit. It will cost you a whole lot less that if you bought one and those who have built their own seem to be happy with their units.

Below are some excellent resources on the Internet for the type of drum sander I want to build.

There are a lot of other Internet resources for more simplied units as well.
